I just got back from my first vacation in 3 1/2 years. I’ve travelled a lot in that time, but it was always for work or weddings. This was my first trip to just relax and hang out. And of all places, I went to New York. It is a different experience to just hang out and walk around and enjoy the city in the summer. It was great. I had a really nice reunion with old friends downtown, but for the most part I just kept it pretty mellow. I also got to go out to the Hamptons for the first time. That place is pretty nuts - it is a very strange intersection of beauty and serenity with immense wealth and materialism. Again, true to my nature, I kept it mellow and just did a lot of bike riding and swimming and hanging out and eating. It was absolutely lovely.
Unbeknownst to most, I was eating vegan for the last six weeks. But to the delight of some, my veganism was brought to its knees in New York, although I did get to eat at the delicious Candle 79, which I highly recommend. Now I am a vegetarian who eats fish if you are looking for labels I guess I am officially a pescatarian, but again we’ll see how long this one lasts.
Good to be back in Los Angeles. Though it was only a week I feel very refreshed and ready to get down to business. I strongly recommend vacations. I need to take more of them more often.
