1 in 100

In this article in the New York Times, it’s revealed that 1 in 100 Americans are in jail.  That is insane.  What does that say about our country.  Even more ridiculous is this statistic:

One in nine black men ages 20 to 34 are in jail.

That is completely crazy to me.  I don’t understand how that is possible, or how we can not question ourselves and the legitimacy of our justice system, or the socioeconomic inequality that exists in this country.  It’s embarrassing.
