2008
For a few years now, I have used my self-indulgent blog as a place to reflect on the year past, and to look forward to the year ahead. I generally appreciate the annual demarcation of time as a perfect opportunity to take stock of oneself and to set some goals. No better way than through a public forum to consider such important things. Especially two weeks into the new year.
In 2007, I directed 2 music videos (Bobby Light & Kid Sister), 26 commercials (for three different campaigns - Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Boost Mobile & ESPN), finished up the Nick Thune shorts, shot a bunch of hilarious shorts for a pilot at Fox (including Between Two Ferns), shot some promos for It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, shot a bunch of photos of Borat, completed 1 1/2 seasons of Rob & Big, sold a scripted pilot to ABC, got hired to direct a feature at Sony, and got reconstructive knee surgery. All the while, I was pretty happy and enjoyed the steps along the way. I fully realize how lucky I am to be working in this business, and I am very thankful for the success that I have had. I am truly living the dream.
On top of all that, I spent some very nice time in New York, attended Elijah & Matisse’s lovely wedding in Vermont, visited Andrew & Jack in DC, Hilary in Chicago, my Grandpa Jack in Louisville, my folks in Arizona, and I rang in the new year with Nat and Josh in SF.
Looking forward to 2008, I have a lot I want to accomplish, both personally and professionally. Above all else, I really want to make a movie. I am lucky enough to be attached to two great projects, so I really hope that we can get one made this year. On top of that, I want to see the Nick Thune show shot, and hopefully get that on air as well. Other than that, I would love to continue to make commercials, music videos, short films, and whatever else with a wide variety of creative collaborators.
On a more personal level, this year I want to travel, find a new home, get in shape, and find love. You know, just the basics…
