The Wire

I just finished watching all four seasons of “The Wire.” Never before has a tv show made me think so much - about the drama that it portrays, but more so about my own life, and where I’m at and how I got here. It is such an incredible accomplishment that the producers were able to create a compelling story that is so socially relevant. Living in Los Angeles, one isn’t required to think too much about anyone other than oneself. It is so easy to live in a vacuum and be self-obsessed, but watching this show, I am struck with the reality of other people’s situations. While it is obvious that I am very lucky to have had the privileges I have had, I am at the same time reminded of the fact that some people choose to help make things better, while others choose to ignore problems. I’m definitely one of the latter. I have infinite respect for all those that choose to help make things better, and hope to someday join their ranks.
