What A Weekend
Well, for a comedy/film nerd like me, this was the Superbowl. Friday night I went to a double feature of Blazing Saddles and History of the World, Part 1. In between the two movies, Mel Brooks spoke for about 45 minutes, and it was one of the most entertaining, hilarious 45 minutes I’ve spent in a long time. He is as sharp, and as funny as ever. It’s amazing that he has had more...
A President Like My Father →
Caroline Kennedy explains how Obama has the potential to be inspirational for a generation, and that, as much as anything else, is why I support him.

All one piece of paper.
This dude is funny.
I love the way Paul Rust’s body moves.
RJ Fried is funny. But that kid is very scary.
The Top Ten Music Videos of 2007 →
I vaguely remember what music videos are. Actually, I really kind of want to get back into the music video game. Having directed two in 2007, it made me remember how much fun they can be. Sadly, I have no music video rep in either the US or the UK, so the opportunities are not very plentiful. If you want to help change this situation, don’t hesitate to let me know.
Oscar Predictions
I have never done this before, so no better time than the present to try and predict who will take the statues. BEST PICTURE “Atonement” (Focus Features) “Juno” (Fox Searchlight) “Michael Clayton” (Warner Bros.) “No Country for Old Men” (Miramax and Paramount Vantage) “There Will Be Blood” (Paramount Vantage and Miramax) Ruben’s...

Cloverfield is really fun
Unless you suffer from motion sickness or dizziness, I think you will really like Cloverfield. It is like Blair Witch meets Godzilla. They did it very well. I recommend it, unless you are prone to nausea or are epileptic, in which case I would not recommend it unless you want to vomit or have a seizure.

2008
For a few years now, I have used my self-indulgent blog as a place to reflect on the year past, and to look forward to the year ahead. I generally appreciate the annual demarcation of time as a perfect opportunity to take stock of oneself and to set some goals. No better way than through a public forum to consider such important things. Especially two weeks into the new year. In 2007, I...
My Grandfather's Records →
I was in Louisville this past weekend to be with my 89 year old grandfather as he recorded his 3rd album. He just started recording two years ago, as an 87th birthday present, but he’s gone on to great things, including being featured on a local television show. There is something very touching about his music, and while it’s very personal for me, I think it’s universal. Here...
This is why the writers are striking →
Beyond the Macbook Air, the most important thing to take away from today’s MacWorld expo was the fact that Apple has reinvented the distribution mechanism for film and television, and everything from now on will be done through the web. No more need to buy DVD’s, and that means no more residuals for writers, as currently contracted. And you will notice that all the major studios are...

My Undoing
So when I got my knee surgery, I figured I would get an XBOX so that I could wile away the hours playing video games while I lay in bed. Instead, I became obsessed with The Wire and my television was occupied with four seasons worth of tales of harrowed Baltimore. However, now that I am out of my Vicodin haze and I only have every Sunday to get my Wire fix, I have taken to exploring the magic of...
